Ghada Al Hassan was born in Qa4f in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, and currently works from Dammam. She has received a BA in Arabic language, and has also completed technical courses in oil pain4ng, watercolors, and collage techniques, all of which feature prominently in her work. She has exhibited work around Saudi Arabia and interna4onally in countries such as Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, China, Germany, Czech Republic, and Morocco. Al Hassan’s pain4ngs and sculptures are inspired by and draw on history and collec4ve memory. In referencing and calling on ancient Saudi and Islamic literature, myth, language, and philosophy, her works explore the past while also crea4ng a humanis4c record s4ll relevant in a contemporary context. Using collage, text, and images on various treated surfaces, she creates works that look both contemporary while retaining a powerful sense of nostalgia.
