Overview
South Korean artist Lee Lee Nam, born in 1969, is a visionary in blending modern technology with traditional culture through his captivating digital and video artworks. His pieces often juxtaposed European old master paintings and traditional Asian art with contemporary imagery, creating a mesmerizing tapestry where dreams and reality intertwine. Lee Lee Nam's unique eight-fold LED monitor installations, surrounded by traditional Asian folding screens, breathe life into static icons like swans, butterflies, and birds. Boats glide, butterflies scatter, and snow falls, bridging Korean and European masterpieces with striking visual and emotional parallels. These digitized artworks, simultaneously beautiful and hauntingly familiar, form a truly postmodern narrative that harmoniously unites tradition and modernity, both in style and medium. Lee Lee Nam's creations, deeply rooted in video art, explore human imagination, offer solace in our bustling world, and often carry complex critiques of consumerism and label-oriented societies. Graduating in sculpture from Chosun University, Korea, in 1995, and earning a Doctorate in Fine Arts from Yonsei University, Korea, in 2007, Lee Lee Nam is hailed as a "media artist" with global exhibitions at esteemed venues and an exclusive artist partnership with SAMSUNG Electronics, all while residing and crafting his art in Gwangju, Korea.
