Ahmad Moualla is a Syrian artist currently based in Dubai, having graduated from the Damascus University of Fine Arts and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts in Paris. Renowned for his beautifully-painted and dramatically impactful canvases, Moualla addresses complex themes such as the strained relationships between society and the individual, the influence of past and present icons, and the blurred lines between reality and fiction, as well as the conscious and subconscious mind. A trailblazer in his field, Moualla was the first to incorporate performance into his work, debuting at Atassi Gallery in 1997 with the exhibition "A tribute to Saadallah Wannaous," honoring the late Syrian playwright. Widely regarded as one of the leading postmodern artists in Syrian expressionism, Ahmad Moualla continues to shape the artistic landscape with his innovative approach.
